What’s up with Prince’s bike?
Prince is wrapping up his 21-night stand at the Forum in Los Angeles this weekend. I went to the May 14 show (it was amazing), and I caught a glimpse of him riding his bike to the stage between songs. My friend who had already seen him at the Forum mentioned the bike to me before the show, so I was on the lookout. Some tenacious fans have caught him in the act while waiting for more encores and were kind enough to upload video. (See below.)
Of course I’m fascinated by this because I like bikes and spend a lot of time on one, but I also want to know more about it. Closer inspection of the photo above reveals he’s riding a Trek. The best match I could find is the 2009 7.5 FX. It’s definitely a hybrid, a cross between a road bike and a mountain bike. Another photo from the same message board where the above photo was posted shows that Prince’s bike has a silver saddle, like this one. So I’m wondering, is this his personal bike? Is it on loan? Will it go back to Minneapolis with him? The badlands are nearby, and a hybrid seems suitable for the terrain. Is Prince a bike fanatic, or was this just a good way for him to get to and from the stage in the center of the arena?
Going on speculation, hearsay, photographic evidence and the badass heels he wears onstage, I think we’re about the same height, so I’m sure his bike would be a good fit for me. I’ll come out and say it: I’m kind of hoping Prince wants to leave this bike in L.A. He could auction it for charity so I’ll have a (very, very slim) chance of owning it. Does anyone know Prince’s people? Let’s do this! Also: Is this how Internet rumors get started?
